DULUTH - Clint Franklin Massie took a deep breath and cleared his throat, then in a quiet, raspy voice apologized and asked his victims for forgiveness - overtures that came too late, according to St. Louis County District Judge Eric Hylden. Massie, 50, was sentenced to nearly eight years in prison Thursday afternoon after pleading guilty to four counts of criminal sexual conduct in late 2024.

Authorities are investigating a fire Tuesday morning at Dyno Nobel Inc., an Iron Range-based manufacturer of blasting products used by the mining industry. The fire, which started near an exhaust vent, was contained and then put out quickly, according to a news release from the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department. Authorities issued a brief one-mile evacuation, then lifted it soon after. No injuries were reported.

DULUTH, Minn. - The man accused of burying the stolen ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in "The Wizard of Oz" in his backyard for years has died - closing the case against him that never got its conclusion in federal court. Jerry Hal Saliterman, 77, of Crystal died Sunday. He had COPD and Parkinson's disease, according to court filings. His health problems had led to delays in his case.
