GIG HARBOR, Wash. — A family in Gig Harbor is working to move forward and rebuild their lives after their home burned down last week. “You need to focus on what is present. I can’t dwell on the past so if you bring it up I start crying so I can’t do that,” Gunda Meissner said. Late at night on April 8, the Meissner family home, located on the 4400 block of 88th Avenue Northwest, burst into flames. Fire crews were forced to demolish the entire structure. “It looks like a war zone,” Meissner said.

SEATTLE — Seattle Pride is asking for community donations to help cover a $350,000 budget shortfall caused by a loss of corporate sponsorships, which the nonprofit attributes to DEI rollbacks and political attacks on the LGBTQ community. If Seattle Pride’s budget doesn’t improve, Executive Director Patti Hearn said next year’s Pride celebration could be noticeably different — like a shorter parade or more paid events. “It's relatively urgent,” she said.

UNION, Wash. — A Des Moines storage tank company is facing a hefty fine from the Washington Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) for causing back-to-back explosions at a Mason County resort that sent two workers to the hospital. Calhoun Tanks and Services has been hit with a maximum penalty of $166,423 according to L&I spokesperson Dina Lorraine.
