Zachary Newton, 35, has been indicted for Second-Degree Murder following a Knoxville Police Department-led Drug Related Death Task Force investigation into an overdose death. A Knox County Grand Jury indicted Newton for second-degree murder, sale and delivery of fentanyl and cocaine, and tampering with evidence after the overdose death of a 31-year-old woman at an apartment on Asheville Highway in July of 2024.

Two people were arrested after KPD officers responded to shots fired at the Evape Tavern and Dispensary on North Central Street early Tuesday morning. At around 2:40 a.m. on June 3, 2025, officers responded to a shooting at the Evape Tavern and Dispensary on North Central Street. Witnesses reported that 58-year-old Robert Vandergriff repeatedly tried to get the bar staff to serve his girlfriend, 59-year-old Glenda Savage. The bar staff had determined Savage was intoxicated and refused to serve her.

East District officers seized four handguns, including two that were stolen, after a traffic stop on Monday night. At around 9:30 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025, officers stopped a white Nissan Altima that ran a stop sign at Castle Street and Wilson Avenue. Officers made contact with the driver, identified as 18-year-old Gabriel McMeans, front-seat passenger, identified as 19-year-old Jylen Bailey, and an additional backseat passenger.

Four people were injured and 35-year-old Bryant Page and 33-year-old Dyshawn McNeil were charged after they fled a traffic stop on Holston Drive Monday evening. At around 7:45 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2025, officers pulled over a red Nissan Altima after observing it run a red light on Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue at Fern Street. During the stop, the officer noted that the three occupants – Page, McNeil and an additional passenger – were acting suspiciously.

A man was killed in deadly crash that happened on North Broadway early Wednesday morning. At around midnight on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Knoxville Police Department officers received several 911 calls of a rollover crash in the 1700 block of North Broadway. KPD arrived on scene to find a black Jeep flipped on its side and on fire. Preliminary investigation showed that a Kia sedan was attempting to pull left into the Kenjo gas station, driving into the path of the Jeep.
