A Fife mum was denied disability benefit, despite leaving a “degrading” assessment in an ambulance. Louise Kennedy-Dalby has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a painful connective tissue disorder that affects the joints, skin and blood vessels. She had to leave her job as a sports events manager after suffering years of joint dislocations and bone fractures. Despite that, she was forced to attend a work capability assessment to see if she was entitled to benefits.

The Bruce Festival is expanding as it returns to Dunfermline for a second year. Last year’s event celebrated King Robert the Bruce’s 750th birthday. And it was declared a huge success, attracting more than 16,000 visitors over the weekend. Around 20,000 are expected to flock to Pittencrieff Park this year for even more fun. The festival includes jousting, mock battles, falconry, medieval crafts and storytelling.

An appeal against blocking Glenrothes Poundstretcher’s move to a bigger unit will be held next month. The budget retailer wants to move from its present shop at Saltire Retail Park into the former trampoline park across the road. The move would then allow chain retailer The Range to occupy the vacant Poundstretcher store. However, Fife Council officers refused the application amid fears it could affect Glenrothes town centre’s viability.

Plans to transform a St Andrews hotel into a luxury boutique venue have been approved. The Ardgowan Hotel will undergo a £7.5 million restoration, merging with the Pilmour Hotel next door. Sitting a stone’s throw from the world-famous Old Course, both hotels closed in January and are due to reopen next year. Owners, the Marram Collection, which bought the business in 2022, expects to create 50 jobs. The work includes a rear extension, increasing the number of rooms from 36 to 44.

Plans for a new £500,000 cafe at St Andrews harbour have been approved. The modern stone facility will replace a temporary building, which has occupied the site for more than 50 years. And it will be 130% bigger than the existing building, described by one councillor as “an eyesore”.
