    Back in Colorado, the rest of the Summit High School track and field team competed at two meets. Most notably, Summit traveled to Lakewood on Thursday, April 10, to compete at the Don Osse Lakewood Tiger Invitational. The Summit girls were able to place second overall at the meet with 70 total points while the boys placed 10th with 36 points. Freshman Paige Ratliff and freshman Sophie Dinse were both able to score several points for the team in the girls 1600-meter run.

    On Sunday, April 20, Summit Telemark will host its inaugural Summit Telemark Festival at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area. Being held in conjunction with A-Basin’s Save Our Snow Sustainability Party, a fundraiser for High Country Conservation Center. The event will include telemark demos, a silent auction, group skiing and apres skiing. Demos will be available from AMR and Bishop Telemark. The demo village costs $10 for unlimited demos.

    As distance runners continued to clump together on the track, Summit High School senior Josh Shriver knew he needed to make a move if he wanted to achieve his goal of running a fast time. After traveling to Southern California for his first and last Arcadia Invitational, Shriver was not going to let himself grow complacent. Instead, Shriver decided to put it all on the line while racing in the men’s 3200-meter run on Friday, April 11.

    Playing in Breckenridge at above 9,000 feet, the Summit High School boys lacrosse team does not get very many warm, spring games. In fact, Summit has played its home games so far this season in the snow and wind, with players often sporting hoodies under their pads. After braving the conditions, Summit was awarded with beautiful blue skies and temperatures in the 60’s as it hosted Eagle Valley High School on Saturday, April 12.

    The town of Frisco is inviting community members to the Frisco Adventure Park Day Lodge on Wednesday, April 23, for its first dark sky outreach event. Frisco and Richard O’Brien with DarkSky Colorado will be leading an educational opportunity for community members to learn about bird migration and the effects of light pollution on migrating birds.
