BUENA VISTA, Colo. — Kyra Jones has become the first female fire chief in Chaffee County, marking a significant milestone in a profession where women account for only about 6% of fire chiefs nationwide. Jones, who has served as a firefighter in the district for more than a decade, officially took on the role about a month ago after serving as the interim chief. In the nearly 50-year history of Buena Vista's fire department, she is the first woman to reach this position.
