The Summit Daily News was established by Jim Pavelich in August 1989 and was acquired by Swift Newspapers in 1993. Initially, the SDN was published five days a week. It expanded to six issues during the summer of 1992 and then added a seventh issue by December 1994, officially becoming a daily publication.

    Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers successfully removed a cow and two calf moose from River Creek Park on Wednesday and relocated them outside of Steamboat Springs city limits for the safety and well-being of the moose and the public. “We did safely relocate them to an area outside of town limits that is going to be a much better place for them to be,” said Rachael Gonzales, public information officer for Parks and Wildlife.

    Colorado Parks and Wildlife is reminding the public to be aware of potentially aggressive cow moose while recreating outdoors during calving season following three conflicts in Grand, Park and Routt counties. At least one person was trampled in each attack. Cow moose give birth to calves in late spring and early summer and can become more aggressive toward perceived threats to their young during this time. Cows will hide their calves to protect them from predators, but will remain nearby.
