Cruise line bookings continuing to increase

OMAHA - As people look at where they want to go for vacation, many are looking at taking a cruise. Gene LaDoucer with AAA the Auto Club Group says last year saw record bookings for cruises, and this year that record looks to be broken. LaDoucer says cruises have rebounded well since the COVID-19 pandemic, and cruise lines are taking the health of their passengers very seriously. "They constantly cleaning the ships, providing reminders to clean your hands and avoid close contact.
Gas prices projected to continue upward trend

OMAHA - Don’t be surprised if you start to see gas prices inch up as the temperature warms up. Gene LaDoucer with AAA the Auto Club Group says now is the time of year gas prices will start to move higher. In Nebraska, prices have moved nine cents higher in the last month and about 15 cents in the Norfolk area. LaDoucer says a lot of the increase so far has been caused by higher oil prices due to increased tensions in the Middle East.
Norfolk Lions Club Pancake Feed is this Saturday

NORFOLK - Norfolk’s oldest family tradition, the 64th annual Lions Club Pancake Feed, is coming up this weekend. To put its popularity into perspective, they’ll have 2,600 pounds of their special sausage to eat or buy to take home, 250 gallons of syrup, a pallet and a half of pancake batter, and many gallons of milk and orange juice. While you’re eating, Lion Tim Ernst says you can enjoy some local entertainment and buy tickets for their various raffle items.
Pillen unveils Nebraska's own version of Summer EBT program

LINCOLN - In December, Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen announced the state wouldn’t participate in the USDA’s Summer EBT program and claimed a site-based Summer Food Service program was sufficient. Pillen has reversed that decision and unveiled his creation of the S-EBT program alongside various state senators, the Nebraska DHHS, and the Nebraska Department of Education at a news conference Monday.
Ricketts not happy with border bill, justifies his 'no' vote

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Last week, a bipartisan border deal was struck down in the U.S. Senate and U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts was one of those who didn’t vote for it as he claims it “doesn’t get the job done”. In general, Ricketts said it contains insufficient policy changes to secure the border. He said border legislation must force President Joe Biden to secure the border, stop his mass parole of illegal aliens, and end the national security and humanitarian crisis that he created.
History of tea and cultures surrounded by it featured in new EVM exhibit

NORFOLK - You can learn about tea, the history of it, and much more at the Elkhorn Valley Museum. Executive Director Libby McKay says the rotating exhibit in their front gallery showcases a set of scenes that explore different highlights of tea history through different eras and is called “Tea for Two”. McKay says one of the scenes is from the 1880’s. "The tea gown came out around the 1880's and that was a big fashion statement for women who were serving tea in their homes.
Funding granted for new Northeast Nebraska Regional Land Bank

NORFOLK - The new Northeast Nebraska Regional Land Bank was approved by the Norfolk City Council in December. Then in January, its inaugural meeting was held where board members were installed and a budget was passed. At the Norfolk City Council meeting earlier this week, the request of funding for the land bank was considered.
Nebraska snow plow drivers being recognized

LINCOLN - With the snow continuing to melt away, the Nebraska Department of Transportation took a chance to recognize the hard work snow plow drivers put in and thank all of those who stepped up to help. At a press conference Thursday, NDOT Director Vicki Kramer said NDOT plow operators put in 200,000 hours of work in 2023 with 80,000 of them during this past snow storm. "From Christmas Eve through the mid part of January, our teams were working to make sure the roads were safe.
City looking to add an additional water storage tank

NORFOLK - A critical component to ensuring adequate and safe water for Norfolk residents will likely get purchased after bids are received. At the Norfolk City Council meeting earlier this week, Water and Sewer Director Chad Roberts said they want to add an additional two million gallon treated water storage tank. The project is noted in the 2023 Water Sewer Master Plan. Roberts said the concrete tank will likely cost around $4.2 million, with the steel tank being $3.5 million.

OMAHA - It’s that time of the year to put a pause on eating healthy for a good cause. Starting Friday, Girl Scouts across Nebraska will start selling those wonderfully delicious Girl Scout Cookies. Demi Kulper, Social Impact and Communications Coordinator for Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska, says they have nine different cookies to choose from.
