DANVILLE — Danville police are investigating a possible murder-suicide in that city that happened late Friday afternoon. Officers responded to the area of the 200 block of Grace Street around 5:57 p.m. for a report of shots fired. Police located a 32-year-old Danville woman lying in the front yard of the residence with apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.

URBANA — No one was hurt in a fire Wednesday at an east Urbana elementary school. Deputy Chief Steve Doggett said a malfunctioning light fixture was blamed for the fire at Preston Williams Elementary school. Firefighters were called at 5:43 p.m. following a fire-alarm activation. They had been clearing the scene of another call and promptly responded. When they arrived, they saw smoke coming from the north side of the building.

Woodard said work commitments prompted his decision not to continue heading the Vermilion County village of a little more than 1,200 people. Woodard is employed by the Illinois State Police, stationed at Pesotum.

CHAMPAIGN — Motorists wondering if the Interstates 57 and 74 overpass work will ever finish, take heart. There is hope. Ken Crawford, project implementation engineer with the Illinois Department of Transportation, said planners anticipate all of the ramps on the massive project will be completed this year and will be put in service. But he issued a caveat. His prediction is weather-dependent. If Mother Nature cooperates, that phase of the work should be completed.
