    Edmonton police have identified the body of a 52-year-old man who died Sunday night in southeast Edmonton. Around 10 p.m. on Apr. 6, officers responded to 66 Street and 38 Avenue after receiving reports of gunshots. When they arrived at the scene, they found a man injured. Paramedics tried saving his life, but he was declared dead at the scene. EPS says an autopsy was completed Tuesday, Apr. 8, and confirmed the man's identity as Darrell Demchuk.

    Alberta NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi says the government's proposal to wipe out municipal councils' codes of conduct could create a free-for-all of delinquency and grift. It comes a day after Municipal Affairs Minister Ric McIver proposed a new bill, saying codes of conduct have been weaponized to silence dissent on municipal councils. McIver says the changes won't offer free rein to misbehave, and the aim is to create a better system of standards that can't be misused.

    Alberta Sheriffs are pushing back on the government's plan to form a police force. The Alberta Sheriffs Branch Officers Association, in a press release Wednesday, say they are deeply concerned by the proposed creation of a new police force under Bill 49 that was introduced on Monday. Bill 49 includes the creation of a Crown corporation that would operate a future independent force made up of about 600 Alberta Sheriffs trained as police officers.

    The Government of Manitoba says it is investing $2 million in a new partnership with the RCMP. The province announced Wednesday the new investment will be to expand Manitoba's Operational Communications Centre. Part of the will funding allow the RCMP to get six new officers and 10 public servant dispatchers at the communication centre, allowing for increased operations 24/7.
