Man charged in Oxbow woman’s death remains in custody

REGINA – One of the two men accused in the death of Briana Hayes in Oxbow last year is still in custody following his most recent arrest. Tyler Neil Shaw of Gainsborough was supposed to have a show-cause hearing on April 17 in Regina Provincial Court to determine if he would receive bail. But the hearing was rescheduled to May 22 in Regina.

REGINA – A former southeast Saskatchewan resident who is facing several charges from Regina is no longer in custody. Mason Wayne Strutt, age 23, was released with conditions after making an appearance by video April 17 in Regina Provincial Court. He is scheduled to be back in court in Regina on May 15. Strutt was apprehended and charged by members of the Regina Police Service on April 10 and had been in custody until his most recent appearance.
Man wanted on sex-related charges arrested, appears in court

ESTEVAN – One of the people who appeared on the Saskatchewan RCMP's most wanted list has been arrested and has had his first court appearance. The accused, who can no longer be identified due to a publication ban, was on the most-wanted list for March and April, was believed to have been in Oxbow. He was arrested in the Rural Municipality of Calder on April 13 by Esterhazy RCMP officers.

REGINA – A former southeast Saskatchewan resident is in custody after he was arrested in Regina earlier this month. Mason Strutt was apprehended and charged by members of the Regina Police Service on April 10 and made his first court appearance the following day. He was held in custody and will be back in court on April 17, also in Regina, to appear by video.

ESTEVAN – A member of the Estevan Police Service who is facing multiple charges, including assault, had his matters brought forward in Estevan Provincial Court on April 14. Const. Paul Golden's case was adjourned to May 5, also in Estevan. Background: The provincial Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) announced in late 2024 it had laid charges against Golden, after the EPS had notified SIRT of an allegation of interpersonal violence involving the member. He was arrested by SIRT investigators.
Carnduff man returns to court to answer to charges

CARLYLE – Zachary Hillis made his latest appearance in Carlyle Provincial Court on April 9. He was remanded into custody and his matters were adjourned to April 23 in Carlyle for his next appearance. Hillis was scheduled to be sentenced on charges stemming from a drug and firearms-related arrest in June 2024, but the matters were adjourned until he returns to court.

ESTEVAN – Robert Kitchen is looking back fondly on nearly a decade as the MP for Souris-Moose Mountain. Kitchen, who was a member of the Conservative Party’s caucus announced last July he would not seek another term in the role, and he said he won’t consider himself officially retired until election day on April 28. “My phone and my computer still get questions and comments and emails, etc., from constituents who may not know that the election is on, or may not know I’m not running again.
Co-accused in Oxbow homicide jailed for alleged conditions breach

ESTEVAN – One of the two men accused in the death of an Oxbow woman last year has been arrested and jailed for allegedly violating the conditions of his release. Tyler Neil Shaw of Gainsborough appeared in court March 31, and was remanded into custody for his next appearance, an April 7 show-cause hearing. He has been charged with one count of driving while impaired by alcohol, one count of driving with a blood alcohol content over .08, and four counts of violating the terms of the release order.
Redvers Rockets win provincial senior hockey title

TURTLEFORD – The Redvers Rockets are the Hockey Saskatchewan Senior D provincial champions. Redvers defeated the Edam Three Stars 5-3 on March 30 in Turtleford to win the best-of-three provincial championship in three games. The Three Stars led 1-0 after the first in Game 3. Oliver Poirier scored 32 seconds into the second to tie the game, but Edam restored the lead a few minutes later. Goals by Kenton Miller and Poirier gave Redvers a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes.
EPS had a 24 per cent decrease in call volumes in January

ESTEVAN - The Estevan Police Service saw its call volumes decline by 24 per cent in the first month of 2025. According to data released at the Feb. 12 meeting of the Estevan board of police commissioners, the EPS had 431 calls for service in January, well below the 567 calls it received for the first month of 2024. Most of the crime categories were also down. Crimes against the person stood at 11 for January, compared to 18 for the same month last year.
