    ESTEVAN — One of the two men charged in connection with the death of Oxbow's Briana Hayes had his matter adjourned in court once again. Tyler Neil Shaw of Gainsborough will be back in Estevan Provincial Court June 9. Shaw's attorney, Darren Kraushaar, noted the co-accused in the case – Taylor Japp, who is charged with second-degree murder – has a preliminary hearing coming up June 2.

    ESTEVAN — The man charged in connection with a homicide in Estevan made his first appearance in Estevan Provincial Court on May 12. Prince Albert's Evan Dennis Isbister, age 36, has been charged with murder in the death of 60-year-old Todd Isbister. Evan Isbister was remanded into custody and he will make a video appearance May 14 in Carlyle Provincial Court. Judge Mitch Miller asked Crown prosecutor Travis Avery if the murder charge would be particularized further.

    ESTEVAN — Winston Klassen will have to wait until the summer to find out his sentence in an animal cruelty case. Klassen, age 27, had his sentencing hearing May 5 in Estevan Provincial Court. The Crown is seeking six months in jail and 18 months of probation, while the defence is looking for a three-year suspended sentence. Judge Mitch Miller said he would hand down his decision Aug. 18. Klassen was charged with injuring/endangering an animal following the death of his puppy on Jan. 3.

    ESTEVAN — A Quebec man pleaded guilty May 5 in Estevan Provincial Court to three counts of illegal hunting under the Wildlife Act. Defence attorney Megan Ward entered the plea on behalf of Douglas Thibault-Mathias, age 37, for shooting a moose bull, cow and calf late last year near Lampman. He was assessed total fines of $3,000, along with a $1,200 victim surcharge, and prohibited from getting a hunting licence for a year. The sentence came following a joint submission from the defence and Crown.

    ALIDA — Justin McNish is pleased to see other communities following Alida's lead, and starting chapters of Southeast Citizens on Patrol program (COPP). McNish, who is a member with the Alida organization, said it was formed last October and it now grown to 16 members. He is pleased with what they have accomplished thus far, and he believes the group is making a difference.
