As the Bucs watch the tape and prepare for their next game against the New York Giants, they’ll have to keep in mind that the quarterback they are watching on tape is not who they’ll be playing against. Reports have come out from Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport that the Giants are going to bench quarterback Daniel Jones and replace him with backup Tommy DeVito. New York also has Drew Lock as a backup but decided to go with the young quarterback who started six games last season.

There are many reasons the 4-6 Bucs are struggling and mired in a four-game losing streak, but do not count defensive tackle Calijah Kancey as one of them. Since his delayed start to the season, he has picked up right where he left off last year. Some of the supporting data may not agree with that assessment. His pressure rate this year is down to 7.59% from last year’s impressive 10.16%. His Pro Football Focus pass rush win rate is just 7.2% this year.

Table of ContentsWith the Bucs hitting their bye week in Week 11, the playoff landscape was always bound to be a half-game different – for better or worse – when they returned to action against the Giants next Sunday. As much as the schedule lightens up down the stretch for Tampa Bay, it’s going to be an easier path to the postseason if they can get some help elsewhere each week.

Table of ContentsEven though the Bucs are 4-6 and mired in a four-game losing streak, Tampa Bay’s season is far from over. Although it will take a 6-1 run down the stretch or perhaps even going 7-0 to make the playoffs and increase the chances of Todd Bowles keeping his job, there has been some speculation that former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick could be in the mix to replace him.
