After two full seasons away from professional hockey, Jonathan Toews will officially join his hometown team for the 2025-26 NHL season. The three-time Stanley Cup champion signed a one-year contract with the Winnipeg Jets earlier this week. As The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun reported on Saturday, the Jets were the frontrunners to add Toews from the get-go, although the Colorado Avalanche, Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens were among the 15 teams that spoke with his agent Pat Brisson.

The Seattle Kraken made their second trade in three days on Saturday morning, sending Andre Burakovsky to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Joe Veleno, the teams announced. It's a one-for-one deal. After acquiring Mason Marchment from the Dallas Stars on Thursday, the Kraken add another effective roster player in Veleno. The 25-year-old managed eight goals and 17 points in 74 regular season games split between the Detroit Red Wings and Blackhawks in 2024-25.
