    WORTHINGTON — The Worthington City Council awarded a contract for concrete repairs on Service Drive and Service Road improvements to Ideal Construction Inc. on a 3-1 vote Monday evening. Ideal Construction submitted a bid of $1,936,468.75 for the project. The work will focus on the road in front of Heartland Tire, just north of Oxford Street and connected to Minnesota 60. The project will be backed by Local Road Improvement Program state funds.

    IONA — Though the doors of St. Columba Catholic Church are closed, it is still giving back to communities in the area. Its 15 Stations of the Cross — which depict the trial and crucifixion of Jesus Christ — have been repaired and found a new home at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Wilmont, where they have resided since Palm Sunday. Deb Thraen, who made the repairs to the stations and attended St. Columba for 35 years, said the project was brought to her by a friend.

    LUVERNE — Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian grabbed the lead and never looked back in an 11-1 drubbing of Luverne in five innings Friday. In a game that was rescheduled from April 28 due to weather, the Flying Dutchmen scored once in the top of the first and then left two Cardinals in scoring position in the bottom of the inning to help set an early tone. They then opened an 8-0 lead through two and a half innings, scoring runs on both passed balls and through runs batted in.

    WORTHINGTON — This past week of the softball season has come against some tough competition for Worthington High School. WHS (5-8) has dropped its last four games, including an 11-1 loss to New Ulm at Centennial Fields Thursday. After notching three-straight wins, the Trojans lost their first game to New Ulm, undefeated at the time, on April 30.
