LUVERNE — Teresa Wieneke has done bridal alterations and made custom wedding gowns for 29 years out of her rural Adrian home, but now she has a main street business in Luverne sharing space with Tyana’s Bridal . Wieneke opened the storefront in May, just weeks before Amy Van Essen was ready to welcome brides-to-be to her new bridal boutique. The two businesses work together to ensure area brides have the perfect — and perfect fitting — wedding dress for their big day.

LUVERNE — June has often been considered one of the best months for a wedding. It turns out, it’s also a good month to open a bridal shop. Such is the case in downtown Luverne, where Amy Van Essen opened the doors to Tyana’s Bridal earlier this month. Van Essen is no stranger to the retail industry. He expressed interest in doing more rescues after that first encounter with an injured bald eagle, and was soon invited to tour the Minnesota Raptor Center and learn more about what they do.

I’ve probably written half a dozen columns in my head during that time … most likely as I enjoyed the monotony of going back and forth, north to south or east to west, on the lawnmower at the family farm.

WORTHINGTON — There have been a string of scam reports made in Worthington, with nearly 20 reports filed with the Worthington Police Department in just the last two months, according to Worthington Police Officer Chris Hillesheim. Some who have answered these calls have lost as much as $60,000. Hillesheim said many scammers have evolved their approach in recent years. “They're getting a little more sophisticated and they're pretty good at adapting,” Hillesheim said.
