A couple from Westport were killed in a crash in Dartmouth on Sunday morning when another driver crossed into their lane and struck their vehicle head-on, officials said. Jeffrey Moniz and Diane Moniz, both 76 and from Westport, were rushed to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead, according to a statement from the Bristol County District Attorney’s office. Police arrested the other driver, 63-year-old Philip Morris, at the scene, according to the statement.

A girl died and two others suffered serious injuries after, police say, a drunk driver struck another car in Franklin on Saturday evening. James N. Blanchard, 21, of Franklin, was arrested at the scene and charged with motor vehicle homicide while driving negligently and under the influence of alcohol, according to a statement released by the Norfolk District Attorney’s office. The crash occurred around 6:22 p.m. in the area of 76 Grove St., according to the statement.

A Boston police officer was injured in a scuffle while conducting a traffic stop in Mattapan on Sunday afternoon, police officials confirmed. Around 12:19 p.m., an officer, whose identity was not released, conducted a traffic stop at Westmore Road and Gilmer Street, according to Boston Police Officer Michael Torigian, a department spokesperson. A fight broke out, and the officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Torigian said. The officer was later taken to a local hospital.

One of three men charged with stealing over $500,000 worth of gold and silver from a jewelry store in Lawrence in 2023 pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in Boston, the US Attorney’s office said. Rosnel Polanco, 26, is charged with conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery, which carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, prosecutors said in a statement. Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 12.

A man who drove his car head-on into a couple riding a motorcycle in Stoughton in 2021 was convicted Wednesday of operating under the influence and two counts of motor vehicle homicide while driving negligently, Norfolk prosecutors said. Raffaele Frontino, 65, of Stoughton, was found guilty following a four-day jury trial in Norfolk Superior Court, District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey’s office said. Sentencing is scheduled for June 10. The crash took place on June 28, 2021.
