AUSTIN (KXAN) - KXAN spoke with students after University of Texas at Austin leaders published a statement Friday, which says families, students, faculty, staff and visitors are "rightly frustrated" with safety concerns. "When individuals threaten student safety with violent and criminal behavior, our law enforcement have been steadfast in making necessary arrests to remove these threats. But arrests are not enough," said UT Austin Board of Regents Chairman Kevin Eltife in the statement.

As of Friday afternoon, the U.S. has a flat 10% tariff on foreign imports. The sole exception is China — the U.S. has a 145% tariff on Chinese imports, while China has a 125% tariff on U.S. imports.

The crash occurred around 9 a.m. The firefighter was riding a motorcycle home at the time and had worn a helmet, the city said.

AUSTIN (KXAN) - A bill that would expedite evictions against suspected squatters passed in the Texas Senate Thursday. SB 38, authored by Senator Paul Bettencourt, R-Houston, would require civil courts to act within 10-21 days after a property owner files to evict someone from their property. "The current process is so broken that it punishes the rightful property owners while rewarding trespassers who know how to game the system," said Bettencourt in a press release Thursday afternoon.

AUSTIN (KXAN) - This weekend, the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA) will close the southbound on-ramp to MoPac from Steck Avenue as part of its 183 North Mobility Project. "The project team will be closing this entrance ramp continuously (24 hours a day) to complete the necessary work in this area," said CTRMA in a press release.
