Of only 26 academics across the country who received special funding for their research, two have ties to Golden. Colorado School of Mines professor Jessica M.     When faced with her final two races as a college athlete, Colorado School of Mines senior Jenna Ramsey-Rutledge decided to go out in true Oredigger style — securing a piece of precious metal. On May 22, Ramsey-Rutledge won the silver medal in the women’s 10K race at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, following up on her individual national championship in the women’s 5K at March’s indoor nationals.

    The First Judicial District Attorney’s Office has charged an Arvada man with kidnapping, assault and five other counts after he reportedly attacked a server, choked her and threatened her with a gun on May 21 at the Golden-area Rock Rest Lodge. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the server didn’t sustain any major injuries during the May 21 incident.

Golden’s Clear Creek Whitewater Park is a popular destination year-round, but June typically kicks off the summer run-off season for Clear Creek and other waterways in Colorado. As the water gets higher and faster, officials recommend those recreating in and on Clear Creek should check the warning flag status before doing so. If the creek is safe for their chosen activity, they should proceed with caution.
