Republican Sid Edwards and Democrat and Incumbent Sharon Weston Broome will face each other next month in a runoff for East Baton Rouge mayor-president. Almost 190,000 Baton Rouge residents cast their vote for mayor-president, resulting in Edwards, who was projected third in most recent polls, taking the majority of votes with 34% cast his way. Broome, who was projected second, received 31% of votes.

On Tuesday, Louisiana voters cast their ballot for the presidential election, congressional races and one statewide amendment, as well as issues and positions in local elections. Donald Trump won 60% of Louisiana's votes, with Harris earning 38%, the Secretary of State's Office reports. In East Baton Rouge Parish, Harris won 54% of the vote, and Trump 43%.

Two days after the latest poll in the East Baton Rouge mayor-president election was released showing Ted James ahead by one point, Sharon Weston Broome's campaign released a sixty-second radio ad that included secretly-recorded clips of James. In the ad, which records James speaking at an event next to text reading "In His Own Words," James is heard saying "Quite honestly, a white man, a white man, if he knows he got to deal with someone Black, he would rather deal with another man than a woman.

Saturday marked the end of a record-breaking first week of early voting in Louisiana, with over 25% of registered voters submitting their vote early. The end of the first week of early voting saw 761,218 voters cast their ballot, either at polling stations or through absentee ballots, according to the Secretary of State's website . This is around 225,000 votes less than the total amount of early votes cast during the 2020 election, in which Louisianans voted early.

Louisiana Survivors for Reform, an advocacy organization for victims of violence, hosted their fourth annual Lobby Day on April 25, where survivors and advocates gathered at the capitol to build community and connect with legislators. LSR is a coalition of crime survivors, victims' families and related groups that work to change the state's criminal justice system by offering a voice to crime victims through legal advocacy and monthly support group and organizational meetings.
