Tunkhannock Area school district gets OK on solar project

TUNKHANNOCK, Pa. — The Tunkhannock Area School Board approved an agreement with GreenWorks Development last month to install solar panels on school grounds. District officials say they've spent nearly two years on research and financial analysis for the roughly $10 million project after seeing an increase in electricity costs. Chief Operating Officer Charles Suppon says solar was the best financial option.
New child care facility coming to Olyphant

OLYPHANT, Pa. — Tressa Parker shows off the progress of the Greater Scranton YMCA's second Early Learning Center in Olyphant. This 6,300-square-foot facility was a child care facility until it closed its doors last fall. "Parents need care quickly, especially if their jobs are dependent on these children going into care. For them, five months is potentially losing their job." The Y purchased the building, and the plan to reopen the facility was underway.

Ideal Saldi Hall is home to some of the college's main administrative offices and state-of-the-art classrooms. "This is probably one of the biggest days in the college's history. PennDOT plans millions in repairs to region's infrastructure

DUNMORE, Pa. — Inside PennDOT headquarters in Dunmore, the traffic control center shows many bustling roads and highways in our area. Some of them will soon be under construction. PennDOT officials say 102 projects will begin this season in District 4, which covers Lackawanna, Luzerne, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming Counties. More than $276 million will be invested in the region's infrastructure for bridge work, resurfacing projects, and more.
Volunteers pack bags with food for students to combat food insecurity

Skate park planned for Weston Field in Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. — Weston Field will soon have a new feature: a skate park. Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti says the city is taking proposals on a design and building plan to construct the skate park in one of the city's largest parks near Scranton High School. "This has been in the plans since the American Rescue plan rolled out in 2021. We wanted to make sure that we dedicated a healthy amount of funding for a dedicated skate park here in Scranton," said Mayor Cognetti.
