Montrose girls track in field wins sixth league title

MONTROSE, Pa. — In the final meet of the season, the Montrose girls track and field team secured a victory over Mountain View and a sixth straight league championship. "With such a small group of varsity girls being able to kind of intimidate other schools, it makes us feel good and it makes us do better as a team," said Gracie Dalton. Lindsey Rupakus is in her first year as the head coach for Montrose and couldn't be happier with the drive these athletes possess.

Tom Selemba helped coach the Invaders and passed away suddenly late last month after collapsing at practice. The team is back to competing, all while trying to figure out what the season, and more importantly life, looks like without one of their own.

ORWIGSBURG, Pa. — The Schuylkill League represented in this year's 2025 NFL Draft, with Blue Mountain graduate Gavin Bartholomew, selected by the Minnesota Vikings with the 202nd overall pick in the 6th round. Bartholomew played college ball at Pitt, becoming the first Panthers tight end in 15 years to get drafted and the first under head coach Pat Narduzzi. Bartholomew is excited for this next chapter in his football career.

SCRANTON, Pa. — A wave of purple and ponchos were off and running at Nay Aug Park in Lackawanna County. The PanCAN Purplestride Northeastern PA is gathering these folks for a 5K, an ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer. Melissa Hamm of Bethlehem says, "This is actually my first year through Bethlehem School District. We wanted to raise some money for a good cause, and here we are." The walk in the Electric City was one of 60 PanCAN events happening across the country.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — The rivalry between the Penguins and Phantoms was on full display early in game 1. The teams dropping the gloves several times, but the game was mostly one sided in favor of the Phantoms. "I just don't think we played how we should play and how we are going to play, so we just we just feel like we beat ourselves so we have a lot better in that room and we're excited to go," said Avery Hayes. The Penguins had plenty of opportunities to score on the power play.
