    KEW GARDENS, Queens (WABC) -- An ex-FDNY firefighter accused of being drunk and high behind the wheel in a deadly crash is set to appear before a judge in Queens on Thursday. Michael Peña is facing manslaughter and DWI charges. Eyewitness News expects to learn more details about the investigation when a grand jury indictment is unsealed later Thursday morning. Officials say surveillance video shows Peña running a red light on Northern Boulevard and 107th Street in Kew Gardens on February 26.

    NEW YORK (WABC) -- The woman accused of fatally hitting a mother and her children as she walked in Brooklyn is due in court for her arraignment. Authorities say Miriam Yarimi, 32, was a frequent violator of both speed laws and red light laws. On Wednesday, prosecutors are expected to lay out the charges. Miriam Yarimis is expected to appear in court for the first time. A grand jury indicted her earlier this month on the top count of second-degree manslaughter.

    NEW YORK (WABC) -- New York City Council will vote on a resolution Thursday to allow Council Speaker Adrienne Adams to sue the mayor for sanctuary law violations. The Council will vote on the pre-considered resolution after First Deputy Mayor Randy Mastro signed an executive order that allows ICE agents to return to Rikers Island, which many critics say flouts the city's sanctuary status. Speaker Adams will participate in a 10 a.m. rally at City Hall against the move.

    NORTH BERGEN, New Jersey (WABC) -- Two people died in a fire in a high-rise building for seniors in North Bergen, New Jersey. The fire broke out in an apartment in the Cullum Apartments, a 16-story building on Grand Avenue, just before 1:30 a.m. Thursday. Along with the two people killed, another resident was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Two police officers were also being treated for injuries. The fire took several hours to get under control. The cause is under investigation.
