MOORHEAD — In track, every athlete is chasing records and championships. For Concordia sprinter Nolan Morical, just getting on the track beats any trophy. Although Nolan Morical already has both championships and records, his track career ran into its biggest hurdle yet last year: A cancer diagnosis. “I never would have imagined that I was going to get diagnosed with cancer, so that was just a huge shock to me," Morical explained.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — May is anencephaly awareness month. It's a fatal birth defect and it hits close to home for a Caledonia native who is a University of North Dakota football coach, and his family. Offensive coordinator Isaac Fruechte brings energy and NFL experience to the North Dakota football team. He also carries with him the memory of his first child, who died of anencephaly as a newborn six years ago.

FARGO — UND hockey is on just its third head coach in the last 21 years. Dave Hakstol coached the team from 2004 to 2015. Brad Berry took over for Hakstol when he left for the NHL. When the school moved on from Berry at the end of the 2024-2025 season, Hakstol's name circulated as a long-shot possibility for the vacancy. UND ended up promoting longtime assistant Dane Jackson. Now with NHL coaching experience, Hakstol said he was not interested in returning to coach at UND.
