FARGO — It’s one of the least-understood and most devastating diseases in our region. And next month, the Team Hope Walk for Huntington’s Disease is coming back to the metro after a years-long hiatus. Organizers describe the disease as a combination of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and ALS. They say there are about fifty families in the region who have a loved one diagnosed with the disease. It’s both incurable and fatal, and causes a breakdown of the nerve cells in the brain.

FARGO — Interest is up nationwide from first-time home gardeners this spring, and that’s got spots at the Growing Together Community Gardens filling up fast. Three of their ten garden spots around the metro are already full, says founder Jack Wood. They’ve got sixty new members this year and registration for spring isn’t even started yet. The program has more than 300 volunteers who work together to grow more than 50,000 pounds of food each year.

WEST FARGO — She’s a tiny little parrot with a lot of personality and with the story she’s lived through so far, it’s no wonder Valli “Velociraptor” the Quaker parrot has such a spicy side. Rescue worker Cassa Gertsema says Valli came in from a hoarding situation to CAARE Avian Rescue, and during her time before intake, developed some cage aggression, which she says is common for this species. That means whomever adopts her will need to give her time and patience.

FARGO –They’re hungry for their homeland. And at the latest International Potluck, some Ukranian cooks (and refugees) are sharing its cuisine and culture with their new community. Organizers for the humanitarian group United for Ukraine say the Hoshko family came here to Mariupol a few months ago under their sponsorship program. Most of the Ukrainian attendees at the event are here under the same program, which is at risk of being rescinded by the Trump administration, say organizers.
