Update: Tovonte Starns pleaded guilty in November 2023 to one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon; the remaining charges were dismissed. He was sentenced to three years in the Department of Corrections with credit for 149 days served, to be followed by six months of mandatory supervised release. BLOOMINGTON — The man accused of shooting a 17-year-old girl in Bloomington appeared in McLean County court on Monday, his first appearance since he was arrested in Florida earlier this month.

NORMAL — A 47-year-old man from Normal has been charged with multiple drug- and weapon-related charges after a traffic stop on Sunday. Christopher S. Rose is charged with possession of methamphetamine between 5 and 15 grams, a Class 2 felony; and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon without an Illinois Firearm Owners Identification card, a Class 4 felony.

BLOOMINGTON — A Bloomington man was denied pretrial release on Thursday while facing criminal sexual assault charges. McLean County Assistant State's Attorney David Rossi said Bloomington detectives spoke with a woman in August who said Cedric C. Grayson, 19, had assaulted her. According to the probable cause statement, Grayson is accused of grabbing the victim by the neck and ponytail during a conversation, then dragging her into a bedroom and assaulting her.

BLOOMINGTON — A 17-year-old accused of involvement in a shooting in Normal will remain in custody until his trial on attempted murder charges, a McLean County judge ruled Friday. Authorities say Jaylin K. Butler, of Bloomington, is among three suspects in the shooting, which took place Thursday in the 100 block of West Shelbourne Drive. McLean County Assistant State's Attorney David Fitt said an 18-year-old man had been shot in the buttocks with no exit wound and was transported to the hospital.

BLOOMINGTON — Two Bloomington men are facing multiple drug charges following an Illinois State Police Task Force Six investigation. At an initial hearing on Friday, McLean County Assistant State's Attorney David Fitt said ISP had conducted an investigation involving alleged drug activity at a Bloomington apartment. During the course of the investigation, an ISP informant purchased cocaine on Monday and Thursday from 60-year-old Robbie Gunn of Bloomington, Fitt said.

FAIRBURY — A Forrest man who had served as a Fairbury police officer has been sentenced to four years in prison. In October 2023, Illinois State Police was notified of an allegation of sexual assault against 23-year-old Carter Meister, who had been a Fairbury police officer at the time. Days later, an arrest warrant was issued for Meister, and he was taken into custody on four counts of criminal sexual assault and four counts of criminal sexual abuse.

BLOOMINGTON — A Normal man accused of breaking into an apartment and stealing alcohol and a purse has been granted pretrial release. McLean County Assistant State's Attorney David Fitt, said on Saturday, a Bloomington resident observed home security footage of an individual entering his apartment and taking a bottle of whiskey and a purse. Officers reviewed the footage and identified the individual as 35-year-old Daven Baker. He is charged with residential burglary, a Class 1 felony.

BLOOMINGTON — A Chicago man remains on pretrial release, facing drug trafficking charges in McLean County. Leonard Saunders, 38, appeared in court Tuesday with his attorney, Herschel J. Rush, during which Assistant State's Attorney David Fitt filed a petition to deny Saunders pretrial release. Saunders first appeared in court on Monday, but since his attorney, Rush, was unavailable, the court continued the hearing to Tuesday.

BLOOMINGTON — A Bloomington man has had his pretrial release revoked in a pending burglary case. According to a McLean County grand jury bill of indictment, Martavious C. Williams, 35, is accused of entering a Bloomington hotel room March 14 with the intent to commit theft. He is charged with two counts of burglary (Class 2 felony) and was on pretrial release in that case. However, Williams appeared in court Tuesday on a separate matter in which he was denied pretrial release.
