BLOOMINGTON — Members of the public are invited to two community forums to discuss a proposal from Home Sweet Home Ministries to build temporary shelters near Oakland Avenue and Main Street. The meetings will be held at 3 p.m. May 2 and 7 p.m. May 5 at the Bloomington Public Library, 205 E. Olive St.According to the proposal, Home Sweet Homes Ministries would purchase property currently owned by Connect Transit to create a gated community of 80- to 100-square-foot cabins.

BLOOMINGTON — Fees for a variety of McLean County's animal services will increase in what officials characterized as an effort to offset rising expenses while maintaining a high quality of care. On Thursday, the McLean County Board approved an ordinance establishing these new fee adjustments, which officials said were calculated to be in line with comparable jurisdictions.

NORMAL — McLean County Unit 5 will be funding about $9.5 million in capital projects over the next 12 months using general obligation school bonds, a decision that was authorized by the Board of Education on Wednesday. Although the approved resolution gives the district the authority to request up to $15.45 million in bonds, the passage of the 1% School Facility Occupation Tax earlier this month gave the district the opportunity to request a smaller amount, closer to $10 million.

BLOOMINGTON — Cordaryl Patrick, former director of economic and community development for Decatur, has joined the city of Bloomington as its new director of community impact and enhancement. During his tenure in Decatur, Patrick led or was involved in programs that address affordable senior housing, homeless housing and services and vacant property rehabilitation.

BLOOMINGTON — More than 200 residential units could be coming to Bloomington’s east side in the next two years after the Bloomington City Council approved a redevelopment agreement this week. The $41.5 redevelopment agreement, approved by the council Monday, is for an apartment community at 1312 E. Empire St., which would feature green space, a dog park, indoor and surface parking, and on-site leasing and management.
