BLOOMINGTON — The National Weather Service reported atmospheric conditions Wednesday afternoon that favor the possible formation of cold air funnel clouds, which could form weak and short-lasting tornadoes. According to a special weather statement, there were reports of a cold air funnel cloud near Delavan, in Tazewell County, at 1:30 p.m.Cold air funnel clouds can form in vertically developed clouds, which usually are not associated with thunderstorms.

BLOOMINGTON — Residents can expect traffic to be affected on Danbury Drive near Pepper Ridge Elementary School in Bloomington on Monday due to sidewalk installation. The work includes tree removal, curb and gutter replacements, curb ramps, pavement markings and other related work, according to news release from the city. A portion of the costs associated with this construction project are supported by grant funding from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

BLOOMINGTON — In Bloomington-Normal, the community's growing diversity is highlighting the importance of accessible mental health services for non-English speakers. A national survey of mental health facilities published by the National Institute of Health found that 69% of facilities provide non-English language services, more often through on-call contract interpreters than by multilingual staff.

HEARTLAND — Full-time faculty members at Heartland Community College will see annual salary increases for each of the next five years, even as they and other employees will face a double-digit increase in insurance premiums. Both circumstances came as a result of votes by the college's board of trustees on Tuesday. Among the agenda items: approval of a five-year collective bargaining agreement with the Heartland Faculty Association from July 1, 2025, till June 30, 2030.

NORMAL — A new luxury apartment development will be coming to northeast Normal despite complaints and concerns from neighbors. The Normal Town Council voted unanimously Monday to rezone almost 20 acres to allow for the development of more than 250 apartments and townhomes at the corner of Beech Street and Shelbourne Drive. Councilmember Kathleen Lorenz was not in attendance. The Essex residential development comprises a total of 252 residential units, mostly with two- and three-bedroom floor plans.
