BLOOMINGTON — The 23rd annual Ride of Silence will be held Wednesday, with cyclists riding from downtown Bloomington to uptown Normal. The Ride of Silence is an international event in which cyclists take a slow, silent bike ride to honor cyclists who have been injured or killed on public roadways. Cyclists will meet at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, May 21 at the McLean County Museum of History for a short program. Mayors Dan Brady and Chris Koos have been invited to speak before the ride.

NORMAL — Illinois State University and its faculty union have reached a tentative contract agreement, averting a strike after more than 13 months of negotiations. This agreement came on the 10th day after United Faculty of ISU, a chapter of University Professional of Illinois Local 4100 that represents about 650 tenure and tenure-track faculty members, filed an intent to strike with the Illinois Education Labor Relations Board following “overwhelming” support for strike authorization.

BLOOMINGTON — Before fatally shooting a 15-year-old boy in Bloomington last month, officers pleaded with him for roughly 10 minutes to drop a weapon that was later identified as an air pistol, according to reports and video footage released Tuesday. Illinois State Police released body-worn camera footage along with results of an investigation into the Feb. 25 death of Cole L.M. Turner.
