    In a close, defensive game that the St. Francis baseball team has played many times this year, it was Yuba City that pulled off the walk-off 3-2 win in the NorCal Division II championship game Saturday. Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh and with the bases loaded and one out, Yuba City (31-5) executed a slash bunt that resulted in a single into the outfield to score the winning run against St. Francis (22-11) and break the low scoring 2-2 tie in place since the first inning.

    Los Altos Hills’ upcoming year budget shows balanced finances focused on public safety and capital improvement projects, with property tax being the main revenue driver for the town.  Property tax revenue of $9.5 million remains a significant part of the budget, accounting for 51% of general fund revenues in 2025-2026, according to a city staff report. The city council discussed the 2025-2026 budget with the Finance and Investment Committee at a special meeting May 22.

The No. 3 seed Timberwolves hosted and swept the No. 6 seed Lancers (25-19, 25-20 and 25-19) in the first round, with both teams playing well coming into the state tournament but Clovis East making more plays during the pivotal moments, St. Francis head coach Jonah Carson said.

    Goat grazing at the Byrne Preserve in Los Altos Hills finished up last week, with approximately 450 goats reducing vegetation in open space areas as part of a Los Altos Hills County Fire District program. The goats, two herding dogs and herders arrived May 6 and finished May 16. The district has hired a herd to graze every year since 2006 due to their low impact and because their small relative weight makes them ideal grazers, creating less erosion, with sheep more picky about what they eat.

    Its second-half comeback in the CCS Division II final Saturday against Archbishop Mitty may have fallen short, but the Los Altos girls lacrosse team has still taken the program to new heights. Although Mitty (7-10) took an early 11-3 in the first half, Los Altos came out strong in the second, scoring four straight points to open the half from Matilda Haney Foulds, two from Tyra Bogan and another from Kaya O’Reilly.
