College of Engineering Dean Michelle Scherer has selected Shane Oberloier, assistant teaching professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, for this spring’s Deans’ Teaching Showcase.
Oberloier will be recognized at an end-of-term event with other spring showcase members and is a candidate for the CTL Instructional Award Series.

Walker won the award in 2023. A second-year marketing major in Tech's College of Business, she continues to make her mark at the University — and share gratitude for the full-ride four-year scholarship that brought her here. Each year, more than 1,400 students apply to the Leading Scholar program, which recognizes incoming first-year Huskies who best exemplify leadership traits and scholarly achievement in and outside the classroom.

by Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Team Michigan Tech, led by Assistant Professor Shangyan Zou and Professor Wayne Weaver, has just been announced as a Concept Phase winner of the DOE Power at Sea Prize. Out of 86 submissions, 20 teams were selected, and each will be awarded $10,000. The team will compete in the Development Phase that concludes in summer 2025.

Schafer, who majors in ecology and evolutionary biology, plans to spend seven weeks on Isle Royale as a member of the 2025 winter study team. He feels both fortunate and eager to be part of the expedition. "I'm getting a lot of island time — island time that not a lot of other people get to do. It's a whole other aspect of the research," he said. Isle Royale National Park is located in Lake Superior, 56 miles from Michigan's mainland and 18 miles from the Minnesota shore.

Hoefinger is presenting a seminar titled "Antiviral Drugs and Open Challenges in Biophysical Simulations."
From the abstract:A recent study has confirmed the antiviral activity of the synthetic peptide TAT-I24 against a broad class of double-stranded DNA viruses, for example, herpes simplex, cytomegalovirus, some adenoviruses, vaccinia virus and SV40 polyomavirus.

Marlee Huskey explored athletic training, public health and her Native American culture as an undergraduate at Michigan Tech. Huskey, an exercise science major, is double-minoring in public health and psychology. She graduates in December. Huskey found advertised openings for the THESIS program on Handshake, an online career-building network founded by Michigan Tech students and now widely used by universities and employers to more accessibly connect students with jobs.

The Ecosystem Science Center (ESC) is pleased to announce that ESC Director Amy Marcarelli and ESC graduate student Ellie Resendiz have joined the board of the Association of Ecosystem Research Centers (AERC).
Marcarelli, a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, joins as a member-at-large. Resendiz, a Ph.D. student in forest resources and environmental science, joins as a graduate student representative. ESC is an institutional member of AERC.

Request for Proposals: Century II Campaign Endowed Equipment Fund
Proposals are being requested for Michigan Tech's Century II Campaign Endowed Equipment Fund (C2E2) program, an internal award of the Vice President for Research Office.
The C2E2 program is aimed at providing funds to purchase equipment that will have a campuswide impact and improve the lives of faculty, staff and students.
Proposals are due no later than 4 p.m. on Oct.
