The City of Steinbach has approved a new crosswalk to be built in the Hanover School Division (HSD). Joe Thiessen, the division's superintendent, says his team made the request for a crosswalk at McKenzie Avenue and Parkland Drive at the end of February, in preparation for the opening of Parkhill School. "We thank the City of Steinbach for approving a new pedestrian crossing to serve Parkhill School," Thiessen says.

Steinbach and area residents are invited to sweeten up their Easter weekend by joining the Great Easter Egg Hunt at the Mennonite Heritage Village (MHV). Derek Williamson, the owner of Steinbach's A&W and an event sponsor, says the event offers a break between the hustle and bustle of festive meals. "Right at 11 o'clock is when we do the hunt. (This year) we've mixed it up a little and have chocolate and lollipops," he says. Doors open at 10 a.m. and close at 2 p.m. Admission is free.

For the first time, the Seine Rat Roseau Watershed District (SRRWD) is hosting the East Regional Manitoba Envirothon. "The Envirothon is a hands-on education competition for high school students," says Alex Wolf, a watershed technician at the SRRWD. Southeast Helping Hands (SEHH) is working on preparing 365 food hampers for Easter. Ken Dyck, the organization's operations manager, says before a group comes to put hampers together, volunteers count out supplies they have. This year, he says hampers—which will be distributed on April 16 between 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.— will include two variety soups. "That's 365 times two. It cleans out the shelf very quickly," Dyck says.

A fundraiser held by Southeast Cancer Support Services' (SCSS) was a huge success. There was quite a bit of excitement for the Hope in Heels fashion show and gala ahead of time, with tickets selling out quickly—that energy seemed to charge the event Thursday evening. "It was just an amazing experience to be in the new venue (Southeast Event Centre) with over 450 people who just gathered as a community to celebrate hope," says Cindi Rempel Patrick with SCSS.
Noel Gautron returns as PPC candidate for Provencher

Noel Gautron is once again the People's Party of Canada (PPC) candidate for Provencher. Gautron says the first time he ran for the PPC was for a Winnipeg riding in 2019, then ran again in 2021 for Provencher. "A bit about myself: (I'm a) firearms enthusiast, classic car lover, and small business owner," he says, adding the reason he got into politics was to offer better political representation. There are several issues top of mind for him as he takes to the campaign trail.
