    CUSTER COUNTY, Mont. (KFYR) - A Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railway train hauling coal derailed Monday night west of Miles City, Montana. A BNSF spokesperson and the Custer County Fire Department confirmed the derailment. 25 cars derailed and there were no injuries reported. The cause is under investigation. Custer County Fire Chief Cory Cheguis says the derailment was in a remote area and only a few firefighters were able to access the site. They used thermal UAS and UTVs to inspect the scene.

KFYR TV News Director J.R. Havens found a similar venue in Bismarck this weekend. This weekend was a bit different for Drew and Sommer Engelman. Instead of mowing the lawn, they turned their backyard into a concert venue.

    FORT PECK MARINA, Mont. (KFYR) - A new state record Chinook Salmon was caught on Fort Peck Reservoir on Aug. 9. Jim Fauth of Malta was fishing east of the Fort Peck Marina, trolling a flasher and squid. According to Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks-Region 6, Fauth’s fish weighed in at 32.62 pounds on a certified scale, measuring 38 inches long with a 28-inch girth. The previous Montana Chinook salmon record was set in 2020 by Greg Haug of Bismarck, N.D. That fish weighed 32.05 pounds.

    BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Terry Steiner of Bismarck is the head coach for the USA women’s wrestling team. At the Paris Olympics, Team USA women finished with four medals in freestyle. On Sunday, Steiner was mat-side as Kennedy Blades of Broadview, IL wrestled Japan’s Yuka Kagami for the 76 kg freestyle gold. Kagami defeated Blades 3-1 earning her 8th gold medal. Steiner graduated from Century High School.

    MOBRIDGE, S.D. (KFYR) - A South Dakota state record walleye was caught Friday on Lake Oahe south of Mobridge. 43-year-old Aaron Schuck of Bismarck caught the 16-pound 8-ounce fish using a Walleye Nations reaper crankbait. He took it to Oahe Sunset Lodge to have it weighed. A S.D. Game and Fish biologist weighed it as well. Georgine Chytka held the previous S.D. record. She caught it at the Fort Randall Tailrace on the Missouri River in November 2002.
