The Alabama Legislature will consider a bill this session aimed at cutting through legal obstacles facing the state’s burgeoning medical cannabis industry and getting the program off the ground, but not everyone is on board. Sen. Tim Melson, R-Florence, co-sponsor of the bill legalizing medical marijuana in the state, introduced SB72 this week.

With the help of shipping company DHL, a nationally recognized international trade reporter, he’s hoping his church can change that. Davis’ church on the Interstate 65 beltline will play host to shipping company DHL’s first-ever logistics school in North America, with classes beginning Thursday evening.

A Mobile County jury has convicted a Mobile man for the 2021 murder of Jarvis Anderson outside of a Prichard gas station. Former warriors from the Mobile area are organizing to oppose a bill introduced by the legislature and championed by Gov. Kay Ivey in Tuesday night’s “State of the State” speech to make the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs commissioner a cabinet position and reorganize the board that oversees the department. The bill, which was introduced on the first day of the 2025 legislative session, comes after Ivey used “supreme executive power” to fire former ADVA Commissioner Kent Davis in October.
