Passage Theater in Trenton has been marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of hip hop by developing a new stage work based on the artistry of Mercer County’s own hip hop trio, Poor Righteous Teachers. The group featuring Wise Intelligence (aka Timothy Grimes), Culture Freedom (Kerry Williams), and Father Shaheed (Scott Phillips) formed in 1989.

The tale of one New Jersey’s most legendary train accidents makes two stops at Bordentown’s Old City Hall in the form of a new theatrical storytelling presentation developed through the Bordentown Historical Society. The third installment of the “Harrowing History” series, the presentation led by BHS member Kristi Kantorski arrives 123 years after the train known as the Nellie Bly collided with another train as it passed Bordentown on its way to New York City.

Some past communication with Trenton Free Public Library Trentonian archivist Laura Poll brought up the thought of several Trenton Times cartoonists who have brightened up our times and are worth remembering.

Princeton Makes and Ragged Sky Press open their new year of monthly Second Sunday Poetry Reading on January 14 at 4 p.m.The event will feature New Jersey-based poets Faleeha Hassan and Keith O’Shaughnessy. Hassan is a poet, teacher, editor, writer, and playwright. Born in Najaf, Iraq, in 1967, she now lives in Washington Township in southern New Jersey.
