SAN DIEGO, CA (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 13, 2025) – Petty Officer 2nd Class Colton Heerema, a native of Holland, Michigan, serves the U.S. Navy at Amphibious Construction Battalion (ACB) 1 operating out of San Diego, California. Heerema graduated from West Ottawa High School in 2014. The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Holland. “I learned growing up that it is important to have a strong support network and that working hard will always pay off,” Heerema said.

The Ottawa County sheriff’s office was dispatched just before 5:30am to an injury accident at US 31/James in Holland Twp. Reports were of a semi vs pedestrian crash. Investigation shows that a 47 year old Holland Twp man was crossing US31 from East to West. He was struck by a semi truck that was SB on US31.
