BUENA VISTA COUNTY, Iowa — For the third time in 2025, the bird flu has been detected in an Iowa turkey flock. The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) says a commercial flock in Buena Vista has tested positive for H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). This is the third time in just six weeks that an outbreak has been reported in 2025. The first was in Clinton County at the beginning of January, and the second was in a commercial chicken flock in O’Brien County.

This is the third time in just six weeks that an outbreak has been reported in 2025. IDALS reports that 13 cases were confirmed in dairy herds in Iowa last year. Cattle can recover from the disease but it is often fatal to birds.

AMES, IOWA — The Iowa State Cyclones are still a top ten team in the nation after correcting their losing streak over the weekend in a big way. The Cyclones are ranked 10th in the latest Associated Press men’s basketball poll. That’s down two spots from last week. The Cyclones started last week with a loss to the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence on Monday. It was the Cyclones’ third straight loss.
