8 minute 05/24/2025 Two large 61-foot-tall electronic billboards, erected two years ago, stand on each shoulder of the Sunrise Highway near the Shinnecock Canal. Underneath the Shinnecock Nation seal at the top, they advertise this and that on huge video screens. The billboards are on Shinnecock Nation property and so not governed by laws of the United States of America. The billboards also make money for the tribe. They are a pride of the tribe.

SCENE ON THE SUBWAYHoward Stern’s wife Beth Ostrosky Stern was spotted on the subway riding from Sag Harbor to East Hampton last Saturday morning. Some people thought she was on her way to the grand opening of the new pet store on Main Street in East Hampton. Others said she was off to the “Lunch” Fish House in Napeague, but because of the crowds that day nobody was able to keep track of where she got off.

For the last five months, Southampton resident Priscilla Cole has headed up a nonprofit group devoted to getting our 11 beautiful East End windmills up and running as tiny power stations. The wind will push the sails attached to the blades — she’s already bought the canvas for those that have no sails — and the blades will cause an armature inside each mill to pivot rapidly back and forth and thus power the festive lights attached to the blades of each mill.

Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost were seen hand in hand on the Montauk westbound platform last Sunday morning.

Visitors to the Hamptons may have noticed that the number of whales vaulting out of the ocean just offshore has dramatically increased in recent years. It’s such an exciting thing. Seawater sprays everywhere as they breach up, squeak out a chittering sound, arch overhead, and then bang down with a great crash to disappear into the deep. Experts have put forth theories about why this increase is happening.
