    One person was injured in what Broomfield police are calling a reported stabbing Saturday. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. in the area of U.S. 287 and Midway Boulevard in Broomfield, according to a Facebook post from Broomfield Police Department. A suspect has been arrested, according to the post. All northbound lanes of U.S. 287 north of Midway were closed amid the investigation. Drivers were encouraged to use an alternate route.

    A sunny Saturday morning brought people outside to support the St. Vrain Valley School District community at the annual Happy Smackah fun run. The Happy Smackah 5K is held every year at the Longmont-area McIntosh Lake to raise money for an SVVSD student or faculty member dealing with an injury or illness. This year’s recipient is Cooper Rusaw, a third grader at Fall River Elementary School in Longmont. Cooper was diagnosed with leukemia last year.

Zometool, which is based in Longmont, makes building components for geometric models. One of the company’s “STEAM kits” contains hundreds of plastic balls and struts, which fit together to build an endless assortment of shapes and designs. Naturally, the Zometool components are a big hit with kids.

    Construction begins this month on the railroad crossing at 17th Avenue in Longmont for the city’s “quiet zones” project – a project where engineers are expected to blow the train horns less often than they currently do, according to a press release. Workers will make safety improvements to 14 railroad crossings in Longmont, starting with 17th Avenue and Ninth Avenue, according to a press release. Construction on the Ninth Avenue crossing is expected to begin in mid-June.
