For the first time in more than 30 years, Newport News Commonwealth’s Attorney Howard Gwynn is facing a challenger in the primary election. Facing him is Shannon Jones, a prosecutor in the City Attorney’s Office. This race will be on the ballot of Democratic voters in Newport News, citywide. Gwynn has held the role since 1990.
