WECT is the NBC-affiliated TV station serving the Cape Fear area of North Carolina and is based in Wilmington. It transmits a high-definition digital signal on UHF channel 44, which can also be accessed as virtual channel 6.1 through PSIP. The station is owned by Raycom Media and operates in collaboration with Fox affiliate WSFX-TV, which is owned by American Spirit Media, LLC, through a shared services agreement (SSA). Both stations have their studios located on Shipyard Boulevard (U.S. 117) in Wilmington.

According to the American Red Cross, drowning is the number one cause of death for children ages 1-4.
