New mural honoring the 32 Bracero workers who died in bus crash in Chualar CHUALAR, Calif. (KION) - In Chualar, a new mural honoring braceros was unveiled Friday evening. It was created in honor of the 32 braceros killed in 1963. 5 million braceros from Mexico worked in the agricultural industry. On September 17, 1963, 32 braceros died when a farm bus and a train collided in Chualar.

One person shot by police at a Morgan Hill Safeway MORGAN HILL, (Calif.) -- On April 18, 2025, at approximately 12:20 a.m., Morgan Hill Police officers responded to the Safeway grocery store, located at 840 E. Dunne Avenue, to investigate the report of an in-progress disturbance, according to MHPD. Upon arrival, officers contacted 40-year-old Shaun Hillman, from Van Nuys.

A plan called Lead Me Home plans to reduce homelessness in Monterey and San Benito counties by 50 percent by 2026. Local leaders say that with so many hurdles, ending homelessness feels like an ambitious goal.

MCSO hold Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Re-Entry Resource Center SALINAS, Calif. (KION) - The groundbreaking ceremony for the re-entry center was held this morning at the Monterey County Jail. In what the sheriffs are calling a one-stop shop, people coming out of jail will have a better chance at reintegrating into society. "Let's create hope for them. Give them opportunities. To come back into our communities to be productive members," says Sheriff Tina Nieto.
