    By Daniel KatzivePolice have arrested and charged a man for slashing tires across the Upper West Side after a spate of incidents over the past three weeks. An NYPD spokesperson confirmed to West Side Rag that a 41-year old un-domiciled man, Jesus Navarro, was arrested and charged with 15 incidents of slashing tires spanning the 20th and 24th Precincts on the Upper West Side and the 10th Precinct covering Hell’s Kitchen and Chelsea.

    By Daniel KatziveAn apartment building on West 86th Street has earned the ignominious honor of hosting the overall worst sidewalk shed on the West Side. The so-called Sheddie Award was conferred by State Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal and Assemblymember Micah Lasher in a ceremony outside the building on Thursday morning. Hoylman-Sigal launched the awards this year to identify the most egregious examples of sidewalk sheds that have remained in place for an excessively long period.

    By Daniel KatziveA fire in an apartment on West End Avenue was quickly brought under control at midday on Thursday. West End Avenue was closed in both directions while FDNY units operated at the scene. The FDNY confirmed that a call was received at 12:02 p.m. for a fire on the 11th floor of 451 West End Avenue between West 81st and 82nd streets. The fire was declared under control at 12:36 p.m. and there were no injuries. The cause remains under investigation.
