Apr. 11—A controversial plan to build a $110 million aquaculture facility in Jonesport can proceed, the Maine Supreme Judicial Court ruled. The court on Thursday upheld a previous ruling by the Kennebec County Superior Court, which affirmed permits issued by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection to Kingfish Maine in 2021. The company plans to build an aquaculture facility on 93 acres of land near Chandler Bay.

Maine’s hospitals are in a precarious financial position compared to most of the nation, according to a report released by the Maine Hospital Association on Wednesday. The analysis, conducted by PYA, a national health care consulting firm, shows that Maine’s PPS, “prospective payment system” hospitals, which include all of the major hospitals in Maine — such as those affiliated with MaineHealth, Northern Light Health and Central Maine Healthcare — are collectively in dire financial shape.

Apr. 9—The Maine State Library laid off 13 staff members Wednesday, nearly one-third of its staff, and announced that it would close for two weeks to restructure its operations after the Trump administration indefinitely suspended certain federal funds. The library last received funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services on March 24 and has not gotten any updates on when — or whether — payments may resume, State Librarian Lori Fisher said in a prepared statement.
