Sporting Kansas City and the Portland Timbers played a wild first half in Sunday afternoon's Major League Soccer match at Children's Mercy Park. It was 2-2 at the break, ensuring there would be everything left to play for after the intermission. But that 2-2 scoreline became a 4-2 Portland victory after a disastrous start to the second half for Sporting. Sporting dropped to 1-6-1 in MLS play with the loss. David Ayala finished off a short corner routine to open the scoring for the Timbers.

Debinha continued a torrid start to her 2025 NWSL season, scoring her third goal of the year en route to a 2-0 road win over the San Diego Wave on Saturday night at Snapdragon Stadium. Lo LaBonta added a penalty kick to pace the Current to a 4-0-0 start. KC, as a team, has scored 10 goals, only conceding one. KC goalkeeper Lorena had little to no work in the first half, but made four saves in the second half to keep a third straight clean sheet.

Sporting Kansas City finally won a game in 2025, and it came at the expense of its biggest rival. An emotional 2-0 win over St. Louis City SC on Saturday brought out Sporting's best performance this season. Dejan Joveljic earned MLS Team of the Week honors for his two-goal performance. Manu Garcia made the bench, and Kerry Zavagnin - named interim coach after Peter Vermes' departure - was named coach of the week. But it wasn't just the emotion that brought about the result.
