(WSAV) — Officials from the Town of Port Royal said their town is popping up on several travel sites as the ’next place to see and visit.’ They said that’s leading to a larger number of tourists traveling through and to some folks thinking of making it their permanent home. The town recently made some changes to accommodate the rising number of folks visiting but now they’re planning more even for the future.

That’s the goal of a new program that will soon hit tables in Beaufort. The “Only from Our Waters” program will highlight businesses in the area that serve genuine, local or American-harvested seafood.

    ST. HELENA ISLAND, S.C. (WSAV) — Folks on St. Helena Island say that kids in the area sometimes rely on school lunches to fill their bellies.  With school now out, the Community Cultural Resilience Hub is making sure those kids continue to eat by offering free meals throughout the entire summer. According to the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDOE), when schools let out, many children are at risk of going hungry.

    BEAUFORT, S.C. (WSAV) — The City of Beaufort announced Tuesday morning that they are actively addressing the recent spike in crime in the Garden Oaks Apartments through a variety of new initiatives. This comes after several folks in the community have raised questions about the city’s stance on stopping the violence. There have been three separate shootings, and one homicide reported at the complex in the last eight months. The city announced several steps they’ve taken to minimize the crime.

    HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (WSAV) — Your day at the beach could be anything but fun if you are stung by a jellyfish. On Hilton Head Island, thousands of visitors hit the beaches. Alec Kipnes with Shore Beach Services (SBS) say jellyfish season typically starts round late June and lasts about 8 weeks. “Jellyfish are kind of seasonal here. Usually we see an uptick around July, August. “But some are washing on shore now. Since March SBS has treated more than 90 stings.
