BEAUFORT, S.C. (WSAV) — Residents of the quiet Salem Bay neighborhood said their peace has been consistently interrupted by gunfire and blue lights, but it’s not happening in their subdivision. They said the problem is coming from across the road. Folks in the Salem Bay subdivision said there have been several shootings in the Garden Oaks Apartments in the past six months, including one Wednesday night. Two people were injured in that shooting.

BEAUFORT, S.C. (WSAV) — Forrest Gump once said, “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.” Locals and tourists said their box now feels empty, as a popular Beaufort shop is set to close its doors after 45 years. Like all good chocolate, folks are savoring their last moments at the Chocolate Tree in downtown Beaufort. “It’s very sad because it’s kind of like a landmark here in Beaufort,” said one woman, who has been visiting the shop for 20 years.

(WSAV) — Business owners along West Congress Street and in the downtown tourist district are frustrated with the streak of violence they say seems to keep happening right outside their doors. Now some are looking to make changes to their operations to keep customers and employees safe. “This is a beautiful city, you know, but it is becoming more and more dangerous every single day,” said Troy Moxley, the general manager of Lady and Sons.

(WSAV) — Whether they know a veteran who laid down their life, or not, hundreds of folks gathered on Beaufort’s National Cemetery grounds Monday to pay their respect back to those who sacrificed their tomorrows for our todays. Lowcountry residents and tourists made their way to the national cemetery in Beaufort to watch the Memorial Day ceremony. Once the ceremony was wrapped, several folks ventured off to explore the grounds.
