RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WACH) -- The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a shooting that injured a man on Saturday. Officials said they responded to Upton Court around 4:00 p.m. after a report of a shooting. The man was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound, according to deputies. Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public. Those with information are asked to submit a tip to Crime Stoppers at crimesc.com or the P3 Tips app.

COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) – This weekend, Soda City Comic Con is back for its eighth consecutive year. Hundreds of people came out Saturday to the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center to celebrate all things comics and pop culture. This year, there will also be appearances by film and television guests. For many who attended, they said this event is a safe space where they can be themselves.

However, one local woman isn't letting the pain of her childhood slow her down. In fact, she's using her platform as Mrs. Plus America 2023 to serve others and help them cope. “I was a victim of childhood sexual abuse. So, I know that experience firsthand,” said the August 2023 Jefferson Award Winner, Keever Murdaugh.

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WACH) – Richland School District Two held their board meeting on Tuesday, where several items on the agenda were discussed. The biggest topic was Release Time for Religious Instruction. This is a policy that could authorize a student to be excused from school in order to attend a class in religious instruction held by a private entity. Many in the community shared their thoughts on the topic when the floor opened to the public.

COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) – The community came together for a Stuff-A-Bus School Supply Drive on Saturday. The event was hosted by Columbia City Councilman Ed McDowell and Richland County Councilman Derrek Pugh. Dozens showed up to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park for free school supplies, food, and even shoes. A representative from one of the event sponsors, Omega Men of Columbia said it's important to support the youth as they head back to school.
