FORT SMITH, Ark. — April is Autism Awareness Month, and one local parent wants more action for those diagnosed, including the adjustment of a program that many consider the best solution. Justin Harper's son, Jonah, was 4 when he was diagnosed with level 3 autism, also known as severe autism. Harper was informed that aggressive therapy could potentially help Jonah work towards a level 2, however, this therapy must be conducted at home and provided by an autism waiver program.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — An Arkansas Senate committee is scheduled to take up a bill this week that aims to improve access to Alzheimer’s treatment for state and public school employees diagnosed in the early stages of the disease. The legislation would require insurance plans provided through the state’s system to cover FDA-approved treatments for early-stage Alzheimer’s, including Leqembi, a drug also known as lecanemab.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Caring for a loved one at home can be both emotionally and financially challenging, particularly for those looking after individuals with dementia. A bill in the Arkansas House aims to alleviate some of that financial strain by offering tax credits to qualifying caregivers. The proposed legislation, known as the Caring for Caregivers Act, is sponsored by State Rep. Ashley Hudson.
