Bass Pro Shops announced plans for a new Outpost retail location in Fort Smith. The company confirmed the new location will be on Rogers Avenue and accessible by Highway 22 and Interstate 540. “We are honored to open our newest location in the Natural State and are grateful for the opportunity to serve the many passionate sportsmen and women in this beautiful region,” said Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris. The Outpost store is expected to open in early 2026.

The Madison County man accused of killing his family in 2021 changed his plea to guilty.Hunter Chenoweth pleaded guilty to three counts of capital murder Friday. He was accused of killing his mother, stepfather, and sister.The judge sentenced Chenoweth to three life sentences without the possibility of parole.

The Fayetteville City Council voted against a resolution that would have added renters to its Housing Crisis Task Force.Members voted against issue during their July 2 meeting. Council member D'Andre Jones presented it after receiving complaints from people in the community that none of the task force members were renters. He said he is disappointed in the results of the vote, but he thinks the task force will keep renters in mind.

FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers across Arkansas will close for the Fourth of July.Walk-in locations will re-open on their next scheduled day. The Benton County center is located at Northwest Arkansas Community College, in the Becky Paneitz Student Center. It's normal hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily.The FEMA Helpline will also have reduced hours on Independence Day. People can call from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Operators will return to their normal schedule Friday, July 5.

The woman accused of kidnapping and killing a pregnant woman in Benton County is expected to change her plea.In 2022, Amber Waterman pleaded not guilty in the death of Ashley Bush. According to documents filed July 2 in the federal court in Springfield, Mo., she is set to appear at a change of plea hearing on July 30.Documents said Western District Court Judge Stephen R. Bough is expected to preside over the hearing.

Thousands of Ozarks Electric customers are in the dark in parts of Tontitown and Elm Springs.As of 12:07 p.m., the company reported 4,159 power outages. They were located along Highway 412.Each of the outages were connected to the company's Harmon station. According to the Ozarks Electric outage map, 100% of customers receiving electricity from that station had lost power.

The state of Arkansas will provide $60 million to improve statewide water infrastructure. According to a press release from the office of Governor Sarah Sanders, the plan sets aside $55 million for water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure projects. Another $5 million would go to the Arkansas Rural Water Association to help with water and wastewater systems across the state. Leaders said the state legislature approved the funds in the Arkansas Legislative Council on June 21.
