    People across the 40/29 News viewing area were experiencing power outages as severe storms moved into the region Monday night.As of 9:00 pm, over 33,000 people are without power in our Arkansas viewing area. In Madison County just over 65% of the county is without power. Nearly 20 percent of Washington County is without power with over 23,000 customers reporting outages.There are over 3,200 outages reported in Sequoyah and Le Flore Counties.

    ARDOT reported a crash on I-540 in Fort Smith Saturday. Officials said at least one person was hurt.IDrive Arkansas cameras showed emergency personnel responding to a scene on the inside, southbound lanes of I-540, on the Fort Smith side of the Arkansas River bridge. Traffic could be seen backed over the bridge into Van Buren.Emergency crews were directing traffic past the scene as of 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Drivers were using the right shoulder to continue their journeys south.

    Bass Pro Shops announced plans for a new Outpost retail location in Fort Smith. The company confirmed the new location will be on Rogers Avenue and accessible by Highway 22 and Interstate 540. “We are honored to open our newest location in the Natural State and are grateful for the opportunity to serve the many passionate sportsmen and women in this beautiful region,” said Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris. The Outpost store is expected to open in early 2026.

    The Madison County man accused of killing his family in 2021 changed his plea to guilty.Hunter Chenoweth pleaded guilty to three counts of capital murder Friday. He was accused of killing his mother, stepfather, and sister.The judge sentenced Chenoweth to three life sentences without the possibility of parole.

    The Fort Smith Police Department reported an AT&T Mobility network service outage disrupted 911 emergency services.According to a press release, AT&T contacted the department, saying the outage would affect the ability to deliver wireless 911 calls in the Fort Smith area.FSPD said people in the city who use AT&T Mobility should be aware of the situation, and take appropriate steps.
