After several days of severe weather popping over eastern Colorado, we can add Tuesday into the list of rough weather days. The combination of lots of atmospheric moisture and the heat of the day helped to super-charge a thunderstorm over Weld and Morgan counties Tuesday afternoon, sparking the development of a tornado near New Raymer in northeastern Colorado.

A cooler and stormy Memorial Day Weekend is on the way. With two systems changing up our weather pattern big-time! The first system is a cold front backing in from the north/northeast for Saturday morning. This will kick off the day with morning clouds and some light drizzle. We have launched a FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY for both Saturday and Sunday for strong to severe thunderstorms that may develop as we go through the weekend.

Tornadic storms and tennis ball sized-hail kicked off what may be a wild weekend of weather Friday evening. Multiple tornadoes slammed Logan and Washington counties as severe storms blew up across the plains. Eyewitness reports indicate 4 possibly 5 tornadoes across a 35 mile stretch from near Merino and Atwood down to Akron. There was damage reported in Washington county. Two two silos and a few trees near the community of Messex.

A fast moving cold front helped to energize thunderstorms across Colorado on Wednesday with pockets of heavy rain, large hail and damaging wind gusts. The severe storms produced strong wind gust from Denver out across the eastern plains. Heavy areas of rain really bogged down the afternoon commute along I-70 west and I-25 north of Downtown Denver.

Our moisture maker will continue to bring in rain on the plains and snow into the Front Range mountains and foothills through Wednesday morning. The system will weaken in intensity as the morning goes on. Wednesday is a First Alert Weather Day because of the super wet impact on the roads around the Denver metro area for the morning commute. Snow amounts on Tuesday night were impressive and of course will be larger heading into Wednesday.
