Beginner, intermediate and expert canoers, kayakers and stand-up paddle boarders launched early Saturday morning to complete the 70th running of the Westfield River Wildwater Canoe Race, the longest continuous canoe race in America. This year, there was less drama and more racing than last. Race Director Harry Rock said rather than a nearly disastrous 2024, the race is on solid financial footing this year and seeing more people wanting to take part.

President Donald Trump’s handling of illegal immigration is receiving positive marks from the American people, a University of Massachusetts Amherst national poll found, but they also support a path to citizenship for those who have not broken the law in the United States. The UMass poll, conducted between April 4 and 9, asked 1,000 people nationally how they felt about immigration policies, the economy and the state of politics.

Many Americans are not buying Donald Trump’s sales pitch on tariffs a University of Massachusetts national poll found. Fully 73 percent of voters think Trump’s tariffs will result in higher prices for goods and services and rate the economy under Trump as only “fair” or “poor.” At the same time a large majority of respondents say administration’s policies are on the wrong track.
