DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The Duluth International Airport will be conducting a full scale emergency exercise on Thursday from 4 to 9 p-m. The drill will include emergency vehicles and simulated injuries but will have no effect on scheduled flight operations. Those in the terminal building during the hours of the exercise may notice activity on the north side of the airfield.

DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The Minnesota Nurses Association held informational pickets at the two hospitals in Duluth and 11 Twin Cities hospitals on Wednesday to highlight issues in contract negotiations. At the core is staffing and the nurses say the ratios of nurses to patients is at the same level as the early days of the COVID and say that more patients are being cared for by fewer nurses. The Nurses Association says hospital executives continue to prioritize profits over safe patient care.

DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The ramp from West Superior Street to southbound I-35 has been temporarily closed. Contractors for the city are performing pavement restoration work in a project expected to last through June 13th. Detours are in place but significant congestion and travel delays are possible for those heading south out of the downtown area during the closure.

DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – St. Louis County has released the results of a survey of residents conducted earlier this year. Overall survey respondents say the quality of life is good, recreational opportunities are higher than the national average and the maintenance of county roads score much better. Areas of concern include the ongoing opioid epidemic, homelessness and poverty.

DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The cruise ship Viking Octantis passed under the Aerial Lift Bridge around 4:10 a-m on Tuesday and docked at the newly completed DECC seawall. As the first ship to use the new seawall behind the DECC. Officials from the City of Duluth, the DECC and other community partners will hold a special welcome ceremony at 1 p-m Tuesday. In the past, the cruise ships needed to anchor in the harbor and used shuttle craft to take passengers to shore.
