DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Record setting high temperatures, strong southerly winds and low relative humidity will lead to critical fire weather conditions across the entire region again on Monday. The National Weather Service Office in Duluth has issued a Red Flag Warning for northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin on Monday from noon to 9 p-m. The weather conditions mean any fires that ignite will spread rapidly and become difficult to control.

BRIMSON, MN (KDAL) – Several area fire departments, the Minnesota DNR and U-S Forest Service are battling a rapidly expanding wildfire that was discovered early Sunday afternoon about two miles northeast of Brimson. According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department, several cabins, garages and other structures have been affected and several dozen residents were evacuated from the area. No injuries have been reported.

ELY, MN (KDAL) – On Saturday afternoon employees of the U-S Forest Service reported that they had located a capsized canoe at Iron Lake in the BWCA. Upon further investigation, they located a body, wearing a life jacket, floating near the canoe. The victim was identified as 62 year old Robert Sydney James from St. Louis Park, Minnesota. It is believed he was on a solo canoe trip in the BWCA.

ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) – According to the Minnesota DNR, fishing should be good across the state as the season opens on Saturday. Before you head out to your favorite lake, make sure you have an updated fishing license available at many outdoor supply or bait shops, DNR offices and online at mndnr.gov/buyalicense. The DNR is also reminding those fishing or boating to use the “clean, drain and dispose” procedures to protect waters from invasive species.

GREENWOOD TOWNSHIP, MN (KDAL) – The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department responded to a reported structure fire in Greenwood Township Thursday afternoon. When fire crews arrived to the 4500 block of Serenity Point Road, it was determined that a small campfire had spread to fully involve a cabin and then expanded into the nearby woods. Multiple fire departments were called and the fire was contained so that no other property was lost. There were no injuries reported.
