The Victoria High School football team traveled to Greensburg Saturday morning, November 30 to play Axtell for the 2024 8-Man Division II State Championship, but fell 50-0. With the victory, Axtell won its fourth consecutive state championship, its 52nd straight win and finished 13-0 in 2024. The Knights finish with an overall record of 12-1.

The Central Plains High School football team met Hoxie in Greensburg on Saturday evening, November 30 in the 2024 8-Man Division I State Championship and lost 46-0. Hoxie finished the season with an overall record of 13-0 and the Oilers finished 10-3. Indian senior fullback Easton Nickelson scored a 57-yard touchdown run and Hoxie senior quarterback Duncan Bell passed nine yards for a touchdown to senior end Samuel Watkins in the first quarter and the Indians led 16-0 after one period.

Kansas State Treasurer Steven Johnson joined 36 other state financial officers from 28 states in sending a letter to each member of Congress urging them to develop and implement a long-term plan to remedy the nation's serious financial problems. The state financial officers are leading an effort to sound the alarm on the severity of the crisis and offer support to Congress in the difficult decisions ahead.

The City of Russell offices and the public transportation bus will be closed Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29 in observance of Thanksgiving. Sanitation routes usually serviced on Thursday and Friday will be serviced the following Monday, December 2. Heavy volumes of trash will be expected. Please make sure your polycarts are out by 8 AM considering the sanitation trucks have no set time for pickup throughout the day.

Governor Laura Kelly has announced more than $10 million in federal funding will be allocated to community-based organizations and local and state agencies providing services directly to crime victims and survivors. This funding comes from the federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Victim Assistance grant program. "These services are vital to the well-being of Kansans impacted by crime," Governor Laura Kelly said.
